Abingdon Elementary School
Arrival Procedure

  1. On the first THREE days of school, each student will be given one (1) colored “card” as he/she arrives. The codes are as follows:
Shape
Shape

  • Buses – a color coded with bus number
  • Car Riders – a “C
  • YMCA – a “Y”
  • Commercial Daycare - “D

  1. As students enter the classroom, please write his/her name on the card in black marker. Record the student’s dismissal mode on the dismissal chart. The card will be used by the student to identify his/her mode of dismissal at the end of the day. ALL students must have the dismissal “card” in hand as they exit the building. (Teachers need to decide the best way to “house” the student dismissal card so the student will be able to access it at the end of the day for dismissal).

  1. On the first, second and third day, each teacher needs to ask the students if they will be returning home by the same mode of transportation in which they arrived. Those students who indicate a different mode of transportation home or are unsure should be listed on the “Help! Transportation List” attached. This list should accompany your attendance to the office.

  1. The students who are exiting the building as they arrived and/or know which route to take at dismissal will be listed on the “Got it! Transportation List” These two lists will help the office to have an entire day to research the issues and return both forms to you with the appropriate dismissal “card” prior to the end of the day.

  1. On day four, once consistent transportation has been established, teachers will create a master dismissal list. The “Dismissal List” should be duplicated three times - one for the office, one for the teacher and one copied for substitutes or other faculty members who may dismiss your class.

*Please note, Kindergarten teachers will meet their students out in front of the building beginning, Friday, August 26th. Kindergarten teachers will meet students outside until Tuesday, September 6th (approximately one week).

***The back car loop will also need several bus tickets for the students who arrive by car in the morning and ride a bus home. ;)
